Distribution
Sumatra, Java and Borneo.
Uses
The timber is occasionally used for building houses. The bark has been used for dyeing black.
Observations
A medium-sized to fairly large tree up to 40 m tall, bole columnar, up to 100 cm in diameter, bark surface copper-red and flaky; leaves ovate-lanceolate, 3—8 cm 1—4 cm, with rather closely spaced (2—4 mm) secondary veins, petiole 3—4 mm long; flowers in axillary or terminal inflorescences, whitish, calyx c. 6 mm long with tube prolonged beyond ovary and 5(—6) subequal lobes; fruit globose, c. 10 mm in diameter, whitish. Syzygium antisepticum occurs in rain forest up to 1700 m altitude. The wood is hard, durable and pinkish-brown to reddish-brown. The density is 860—940 kg/m3 at 15% moisture content.
