Distribution
From Sri Lanka, southern India and the eastern Himalaya to Burma (Myanmar), Indo-China, southern China, Thailand, and throughout the Malesian region excluding Peninsular Malaysia and most of Borneo (recorded from Banggi Island only) towards Australia (Queensland); possibly not native to the Philippines, also widely cultivated in Indonesia (mainly Java), Peninsular Malaysia, the Philippines and Indo-China.
